End-to-end encryption:
By default, Holedo Messaging uses the highest grade end-to-end encryption to protect users and their privacy. Messages can only be decrypted by users participating in conversation.
Why use encryption?
End-to-end encryption keeps communication secure by guaranteeing that only individuals participating in the conversation can decrypt messages.
The data is encrypted so that outsiders cannot view it, even if a server or network is compromised.
How does Holedo’s end-to-end encryption work?
Holedo uses the Matrix open standard’s implementation of encryption.
Matrix uses Olm, a Double Ratchet protocol implementation made famous by Signal, and Megolm, which expands Olm for scalability at the national and government levels.
For further strength, messages get decrypted per device rather than per-user.
The internationally renowned cyber security and risk reduction authority, NCC Group, has conducted a public and favourable assessment of Matrix encryption.
